    Luthe in 1932
  • Based on the concept of selective awareness
    through autosuggestion

  • Autogenic training is a technique of
    self-regulation, whereby individuals are taught
    to regulate various aspects of their bodys
    physiology, specifically the flow of blood to a
    specific region of the body to make that area
    feel warm and heavy.

Two General Approaches to Autogenic Training
  • Direct method the person consciously moves blood
    to the extremities where warmth and heaviness are
    desired.
  • Indirect method the person focuses only on
    warmth and heaviness, not blood flow.
