  • Mission The Victoria College is a multipurpose
    open-access public community college serving
    Victoria and the surrounding counties.
  • Its mission is to create and provide high-quality
    educational programs and services which fulfill
    the needs of the individual and the community for
    intellectual growth, workforce training, and

The Review Process
  • The committee solicited input regarding the
    strengths and weaknesses of the college
    facilities from the following sources
  • minutes of the presidents luncheons with faculty
  • student and faculty opinion surveys
  • 2003 SACS reaccreditation self-study report
  • open-ended suggestions requested from the faculty
    and staff at large via FYI email
  • commentary, suggestions and requests from all
    operational units, as formally requested by the
    committee
  • a student survey, developed by the student
    subgroup, administered to specifically solicit
    input on relevant concerns of students
  • tours of all campus buildings

Student Survey
  • Developed by student subgroup Over 300 surveys
    were returned
  • Results of particular interest
  • prefer several study/social areas throughout
    campus rather than a central student center
  • the majority use a student area 2 to 3 times per
    week, spend at least some time each week studying
    or socializing on campus
  • prefer both quiet study areas and group study
    areas
  • dissatisfaction with the food choices on campus
  • majority (64) never use the Sports Center except
    for classes
  • 36 would use a volleyball play area
  • 46 would use racquetball courts
  • 70 would like a swimming class and 60 would use
    a swimming pool outside of class

General Findings
  • 108 classrooms, labs, and other instructional
    rooms
  • at peak morning times approximately 1000 students
    attend classes on campus - approximately 70 of
    rooms are in use
  • 1510 paved parking spaces (1139 student spaces)
  • room usage for afternoon and evening has held
    relatively steady since 1998
  • percent occupancy during morning hours has
    dropped from a high of 80 in 2001
  • In 2004 - 2005 only 3 to 6 general use rooms
    unscheduled during periods 4 and 5
