Title: Results Section

1
Results Section
2
In this section you report your findings
3
  • Describing the data.
  • You must summarise the data using measure of
    central tendency.
  • Mean/Range
  • Median
  • Modes
  • Percentages

4
Tables
  • Use a table to illustrate your results (title
    your table).
  • Include a commentary on the main findings as
    shown from your table.
  • Include the raw data in the appendix this is all
the individual scores in the appendix section at
    the back of your report.

5
Graphical Illustration of Data
  • Present the data in your table e.g.
    means/percentages in graph form
  • e.g. Bar chart
  • Histogram
  • Pie charts
  • Title your graphs and always use correct labels
on the X and Y axis.
  • Y axis frequency of scores
  • X axis operationalised variables being measured
  • E.g. the operationalised scores.

6
Summary of how to present results
  • 1. In the opening paragraph reiterate what date
    was gathered from your participants.
  • e.g. Healthy diet rating scores
  • Aggression rating scores
  • 2. Include raw data (scores for each participant)
in the appendix section at back of report.

7
Descriptive statistics
  • In Results Section provide a potted account of
your data in the form of descriptive statistics
  • Means/Range
  • Medians
  • Modes
  • Percentages

8
Descriptive statistics
  • Present these in a table and comment on them
e.g. provide some explanatory text of what
appears in the table commenting on the ranges
between scores is you use means.
  • Use graphs to display the data in your tables
    e.g. Bar chart
  • Histograms
  • Pie charts

9
Inferential Statistics
  • Once you have introduced and described your
data, you should describe the outcome of your
chosen inferential statistics. These allow you
to decide if your results are statistically
    significant.
  • State how the data was analysed e.g. What tests
    were used.

10
Describe the appropriate statistical tests
  • Was YOUR hypothesis one tailed, two tailed ?
  • Value of obtained statistic from statistical
    test?
  • e.g. R 0.5
  • e.g. N No of scores 10
  • Level of significance. Are the chances of
Plt0.005 finding these results lt less/or gt more
    than critical value?

11
Inferential test
  • Finally,
  • State whether or not you are going to reject the
null hypothesis and accept the alternative
hypothesis, or accept the null hypothesis and
reject the alternative hypothesis based on the
    outcome of your inferential statistics
  • If you are conducting a survey State what the
main findings were based on the analysed data in
    your table.
  • In the next section you will interpret the data
e.g. consider what the data means and what it
    has found.
