Why are we here today?
  • RTA Professionalism Committees request for
information before Summer Break to assist in
    teacher curriculum planning
  • To learn about the standards-based Math Pacing
Guides and Datawise Math Benchmark Assessments

3
Acknowledgements and Thank yous..
  • To past Standards and Assessment Committee
members for laying a solid foundation from which
    to build upon
  • To past and current S and A members for their
time and professional expertise to develop useful
    tools for classroom implementation
  • To current S and A members for their hard work
and flexibility to adjust our time-lined outcomes
    in the current fiscal reality
  • To the school board and district for supporting
    this very important work

4
Examples of Previous Accomplishments of S and A
Committee
  • Developed a standards-based report card
  • Identified Power Standards for each grade level
  • Designed performance criteria for the
    promotion/retention guidelines
  • Aligned assessments with report card standards

5
S and A current work in progress..
  • Developing a comprehensive assessment guide for
    teachers to include Pre-assessments, Formative
    Assessments, and Summative Assessments
  • Reviewing and Revising Power Standards to align
with most recent Math and ELA Frameworks

6
Work in progress continued..
  • Researching and utilizing criteria for quality
assessments (Rick Stiggins) to analyze current
    assessments implemented throughout the district
  • Developed standards-based pacing guides in Math
    for grades K-8
  • Designed and piloted trimester benchmark
    assessments in math using Datawise

7
Math Pacing Guides
  • Standards-basedNot program based
  • Influenced by Power Standards (most essential
    standards)

Datawise Math Benchmark Assessments
  • Standards-based, aligned with Pacing Guides
  • To be given 3 times per year
  • Purpose to provide information about students
progress toward standards and inform next
    instruction/intervention decisions
  • Can be used as a piece of evidence for reporting
but is not intended to be the only evidence of
    proficiency

10
Why Datawise?
  • Datawise has been in use in our district for the
past 4 yearsmostly to organize and track
    students state testing results
  • Now, we are using the systems capability to
design, administer, and capture the local data of
    our students
  • Scanning student assessments and obtaining
reports on individual students, classes, and
grade levels, provides essential tools to analyze
results and design support for continued
    improvement

11
Benefits of Datawise use
  • To capture longitudinal data of individual
students (over the course of one year and year to
    year)
  • The ability to generate quick reports to analyze
local achievement data and make immediate
decisions to inform next steps in instruction
  • To use a consistent tool throughout the district,
thereby increasing the opportunities for district
wide support and collaboration in the effort to
    increase student achievement
