2How it all began
- The Delta North Elementary Outdoor Classroom was
established in 1993. - Teachers, Students, Staff, Community and Family
members all helped in the creation process. - Millard School District supplied the cement and
fencing. - All other improvements have been through
donations and grant monies.

4Native Plant Desert Area
- The desert area includes many species native to
our area. Students use it for plant
identification and leaf classification, soil
studies, and rock properties

6Mountain Area
- Faculty and their families along with community
members helped to amend the soil, bring in rocks,
plant trees, and spread bark. - Over the years the mountain area has grown and
flourished.

8Wetlands Area
- The pond and waterfall are the focal point of
the wetland area. Students study uses and
characteristics of water along with the water
cycle. The students also love to watch the
tadpoles change into frogs each year.

11Grape Arbor
- The grape arbor was built by a DNES student and
his family as an Eagle Scout Project. We have had
to replant grapes a few times and hope to see the
fruits of our labors soon.

13Grow Box Area
- Each grade level has two grow boxes. Students
plant crops that tie into core curriculum areas
and use their harvest in a variety of ways.
Students and their families volunteer to weed and
water during the summer.

17- Students and teachers enjoy activities using
the lawn and kiva areas. The shed stores tools,
equipment, pond chemicals, and bird seed for the
feeders.

Grade Levels are assigned specific areas to Weed.
Each class spends time weeding and then reads
independently or listens to teacher read aloud.
This is a favorite activity!
