- Founded by Alani Ogunlade -
To Serve As A Catalyst And Change-Agent For
The Preservation Of Rural African Villages
3It is an understatement to say that
all villages in rich and poor
African countries have been neglected in the
areas of quality education,
adequate
medical services,
economic development,
and
social
programs.
4This total neglect
has escalated the
increase in poverty,
diseases (cholera, malaria,
tuberculosis, etc.) and
lack of, or poor basic amenities such as
safe drinking water,
toilets,
electricity,
and medical
facilities.
5KAVA, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit
organization that is
implementing programs to address these kinds
of issues.
6KAVAs mission is
? to improve the quality of life in rural African
villages ? to keep the honor, character, and
history of the people intact as part of their
legacy ? to protect vulnerable groups during
the adjustment process by reducing negative
impacts as changes necessary to continued
existence are incorporated/integrated
7During a return visit to the tiny farming village
of Olomu Oshoba, Ifo, local government (Ogun
State) in Nigeria where he was born and raised,
Alani Ogunlade observed conditions that appalled
him and he decided that something must be done
about them immediately.

9THE CHURCH PROJECT
The Church Project is to renovate the Historical
Anglican Church at Oshoba Village. The Church,
which was built in the early 1900s has been a
center for worship, and community gathering as
well as a tourist attraction. When the village
was flourishing in Cocoa, Kola and Coffee trading
with a busy Railway Station, visitors would
spend weekends at the village to attend the
Church. Villagers looked forward to events such
as Easter, Children Harvest, Adult Harvest and
Christmas.
10The Village Church suffered the same fate as the
Village School NEGLECT. As the economic
resources of the village steadily disappeared and
fewer financial contributions were made into the
purse of the Anglican Church, the Church in the
village was denied any help. The structure
started falling apart. The roof of the Church
came off. The community is not willing to let the
church go. Each family in the village was
assessed a certain amount as a contribution. Many
could not come up with the amount assessed.
KAVA is committed to assist in the renovation of
this building which is a community institution,
not just a Church.
11The Church built of stones by the villagers has
all the walls standing but the roof is gone.
Villagers do not want the church to disappear
because of what it stands for in the community.
12The Church Bell Tower. It was a source of pride
as a child to ring the bell for daily early
morning prayers and Sunday Services.
13The inside of the Church has been destroyed by
the elements.
14A Structural Engineer has been retained to
reinforce the walls before renovation begins.
15Church Services and Programs are currently held
in this house.
16December 4, 2005, the Adult Harvest at the Church.
Service was held outside to accommodate guests
and visitors

18Children Cannot Be Left Out of the Festivities
19Villagers make sure that services are held every
Sunday hoping one day the Church will rise up
again.
