Chores for boys and girls

• Picking berries was a fun job for kids to do.
  They also had to feed the animals, gather fruit
  and vegetables, dip candles, collect eggs, and
  bring in kindling and fire wood. The girls also
  had to do housework like dishes, cleaning,
  sewing, make bread, butter and cheese.

What pioneer schools were like

• Many kids had to work instead of going to school.
  The school was one room with one teacher
  teaching every grade. They learned reading,
  writing and arithmetic. Some kids had to go to
  another town to go to school.

Clothing for kids

• Settlers dressed their kids in fancy dresses,
  huge hats, fur coats and muffs. Boys grew their
  hair long and wore skirts until the age of six or
  seven. Girls wore dresses with aprons or skirts
  with an apron.

Pioneer toys

• Pioneer toys were dolls and things that their
  parents and grandparents could make. Some kids
  had to use their imagination. Kids could use a
  board as a teetertotter.
