The French and Indian War
  • The French and Indian War was fought by the
French and the English settlers. Reasons for the
war was the settlers were envading west to the
Ohio Valley which was already given to the
Indians. The English settlers needed help with
the war so they asked the British if they would
send over some troops to fight their war. The
British did and that left them in debt. The
English settlers won the war and told the French
    to leave.

3
Proclamation of 1763
  • The British are in debt and they need to put more
money into the Royal Treasury. First way they do
that is they write the Proclamation of 1763 which
enables them to keep the settlers on this side of
the mountains. It was a smart move on the kings
part. This kept the settlers out of the Indian
territory and kept both of the sides at peace.
The settlers thought he would never know if we
crossed the mountains so they did. The king heard
of this so he kept troops there. He didnt have
the money nor the supplies to feed and house them
so he ordered the Quartering Act the stated the
colonist had to house the troops. The colonist
    didnt like that.

4
Stamp Act of 1765
  • The stamp act taxed all legal documents,
newspapers, and even decks of cards. The king and
a stamp and if it wasnt on the documents the
papers werent legal. Those caught disobeying
this law was tried in no jury courts. The
colonist were outraged because they didnt have
    representation in Parliament, and Parliament
therefore could not tax them. Over in England
the people were being taxed 25 times more over.
So the colonist didnt have any right to complain
    about the taxes.

5
Townshend Acts of 1767
  • First of the Townshend Acts suspended the New
York assembly. The lawmakers couldnt do any
business until the troops needs were met. The
colonist wondered were their liberties at risk.
They realized this was just another way to raise
revenue. The colonist set up a meeting were they
voted they should boycott British goods. The Sons
of Liberty, a group of unknown citizens,
pressured shop keepers to stop selling British
    goods.

6
The Boston Massacre
  • The Boston Massacre was an accident. It could
have been prevented if the colonist didnt start
throwing snowballs at the troops. The general was
marching up the streets where the mob had
gathered. A snowball hit a man and he fell
backwards, his gun shoot off. The other troops
started to fire into the mob, 5 people were
killed. Two soldiers were court-martialed the
other soldier went free of charges.

7
The Intolerable Acts
  • The intolerable acts, known to them, closed the
    Boston harbor, greatly restricted representive
government in Massachusetts. It made the colonist
house the troops, troops accused of a crime went
to trail in Britian. During this time we were
sewing into our heads the idea of a revolution.

8
Tea Act of 1773
  • The Tea Act is when the British put a tax on all
imported tea. This tax was 6penance. That means
if they drank one gallon of tea a day for one
year the tax that they paid would have been one
dollar. Over in Britian the taxes were 22times
higher than in the colonies so they had no reason
to be upset about being taxed. The colonist were
so mad they threw tea into the Boston harbor.

9
Boston Tea Party of 1773
  • The Boston Tea Party was a way for the colonist
to get the Britishs attention. Two Sons of
Liberty members dressed up as Idains and bored
the ship the was bringing in tea the stole the
tea and threw it into the Boston harbor.
