Tiering An Example in PE

• Skill Dribbling in basketball
• Tier 1 Dribble from point A to B with one hand,
  switch hands and repeat, develop a new floor
  pattern (not a straight line) using either hand.

• Tier 2 Dribble in and out of cones as quickly as
  possible using one hand, change hands and repeat,
  increase speed.
• Tier 3 Dribble with one hand while another
  student plays defense, increase speed, trade roles

• Are there multiple ways to approach this
  objective?

Questions to consider as you tier

• Am I really sticking to my original objective OR
  have I gotten off track? (BE CRITICAL!)
• Is each of the tiers respectful of my students?
• How should students be grouped?
• What management considerations do I need to think
  about?
• How can students who have completed different
  tasks share their work and learning? (Closure)
