Our Trip to Kentville

• On October 16th the staff and students of Seaside
  Elementary boarded the buses and headed to
  Kentville for the Annual Pumpkin Person Festival.
  Prior to leaving, students participated in a
  read aloud entitled Pumpkin People by Ron and
  Sandra Lightburn.
• We stopped in several locations throughout the
  town to view the Pumpkin People making the story
  come to life for the students. The highlight of
  the day was when the students and staff got to
  roll down a huge hill. This is evident in many
  of the pictures you will see.

Our Pumpkin People

• As part of our Visual Arts and Language Arts
  curriculum students brainstormed, as a class,
  ideas for the creation of their own pumpkin
  person. This was done through individual work
  in their writers notebooks and/or classroom
  discussions and votes.
• Once the decision was made, students were
  responsible for collecting materials and then
  creating their pumpkin person.
• Once the pumpkin person was complete, students
  created a description of their person using the
  show dont tell method of writing. Please take
  the time to read through these descriptions as
  you view this slide show.

• Three children are this persons pride and joy,
• Every one of them has lots of toys.
• A shirt thats soft and silky, with hard and
  shiny buttons,
• Adorn this persons representation,
• In the form of a funny Pumpkin Person.

• The pumpkin person that you're looking for is a
  caucasian male, wearing clothing in primary
  colours. He can hide things in his front pocket.
  Very little black hair sits atop his
  non-spherical head. His thin lips match his
  pointy nose. Although his body parts are
  disproportionate, there are probably many
  pumpkins that fit that description. But do they
  all have 2 arms and 2 legs? Well, this pumpkin
  person does. Can you find him?

• Our pumpkin person has facial hair and is known
  to jump from place to place. He has a drivers
  license and loves to go cart racing. He is never
  seen without his hat and loves to eat Italian
  food with his best friend Luigi.

• Our class pumpkin is known world wide as the King
  of Pop. Our class pumpkin is also known world
  wide because of his awesome dance moves! Our
  pumpkin person has a long black wig covering his
  nice jacket that is the color of a fire truck and
  smoke. Our pumpkin person has a hat the color of
  the outside of an egg. He/she also has a nice
  pair of shoes the color of oil. Even though the
  pumpkin person that we chose is dead he lives on
  in hearts all over the world.

• Ahoy there me mates. Me, me feisty crew, and me
  feathery friend are off to sail the seven seas.
  When land lubbers see our skull and cross bones,
  and hear our cry, Land ho! they quiver in their
  boots and hide their treasures. Shiver me
  timbers, I do love treasure and hand it over you
  will. For if you disobey me, my feathery friend

• He stands at attention. The colours of red and
  white are worn proudly on his sleeve. He is known
  as a peacekeeper. He stands on guard ready to
  serve and protect our country. We are thankful
  for his sacrifice and the sometimes dangerous
  work he does here at home and abroad. He prepares
  himself with a backpack full of provisions to
  help while he is in the field. He salutes you
  for remembering to Support Our Troops.

• Our pumpkin person has no place to go. He moves
  from place to place. He rests in a bush and he
  eats rotten mush.
• He looks like hes been attacked by rabid dogs
  (or small children with scissors).
• The hair on his face is the colour of fog and
  hes wearing the colours of night and day.
• If you look closely you might see some hidden
  flowers.
• He begs for money on the street with his hands
  and uses lumps of coal for warmth.
• Body of wood and heart of stone, his face will
  chill you to the bone.

• If you come see him he will be giving you some

  cool dude glasses
• He raps and moves with the best of them
• He has curly black hair showing under his minty

• He keeps up with the latest fads and is wearing
  his favourite hoodie

• Our Pumpkin person was not very popular at
  school. He was bullied a lot and often lost his
  lunch money. His favourite after school activity
  was the Math Club. On the weekends, he spends
  his time playing Dungeons and Dragons, as well as
  sitting on the computer doing math problems. He
  has to visit the dentist quite frequently and he
  often needs to stop at the drugstore to buy
  Clearasil. He looks forward to attending the Star
  Wars Conventions every year.

  has been on Americas Best Dance Crew. His group
  won four competitions.
• He always wears a mask to cover his face, and
  gloves on his hands. He is wearing a hat,

  is dancing to.
