HOW WILL I USE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE?
  • To achieve the following goals and objectives
  • Educate faculty and students about Southeast Asia
  • Strengthen relationships with the East-West
    Center to further the development of faculty and
    students
  • Develop and incorporate southeast asian
    information into present courses and develop new
    courses in southeast asian studies

  • Hold a brown bag luncheon with faculty of the
    Political Science Dept. to share information from
    this Institute and to discuss ideas for
    utilization within the department

  • Call a meeting with MSUs Regional Center
    representative, ASDP Alumni, and Global Studies
    Department to develop plan for educating other
    faculty

  • Meet with students from Pi Sigma Alpha (the
    National Political Science Honor Society) and the
    Political Science Association to develop a plan
    to hold Southeast Asian Films and Discussion
    nights

  • Integrate elements of culture, religion and
    geography into political science courses which I
    currently teach, e.g., Intro to Political
    Science, Comparative Government, and the
    Presidency

  • Develop and offer new general education course
    Southeast Asia The People, Culture and Politics

  • In partnership with the East-West Center, develop
    a 3-day invitational training workshop for
    faculty from MSU and other local universities
    during International Education Week (November
    2006)

    Southeast Asia in the department

  • Join the Association of Asian Studies and
    participate in Associations activities

  • Expand relationship with the East-West Center to
    develop partnerships to do research on global
    issues such as the environment, health delivery
    systems and public policy issues.

  • Continue to participate in professional
    development courses and/or seminars in southeast
    asian studies

  • Promote and encourage the development of a cadre
    of faculty at MSU that will infuse Southeast
    Asian studies into their curriculum

  • Conduct comparative analysis research on
    southeast asian countries and the west indian
    countries in areas such as environmental issues,
    health care issues, IMF, World Bank, the Asian
    Development Bank (ADB), and public policy issues

  • Research and write papers on public policy issues
    especially as they pertain to american public
    policy towards the Southeast Asian countries
  • Apply for grants to conduct faculty development
    training and study abroad programs for students
  • Add courses to the curriculum on specific
    Southeast Asian countries

    Southeast Asia.
  • Allow contemporary Americans to become more
    familiar with other cultures

  • To increase the students knowledge of the
    geography, political systems, and religious
    traditions of Southeast Asia.
  • To provide a broad overview of the history and
    cultural diversity of the area.

  • To enhance understanding of the diversity of art
    forms and how the arts reflect different cultural
    beliefs,ideals, and truths throughout this region.
