  special, earned, and bespeaks pride and
  confidence
• We stand a greater chance of engaging their
  energy and perseverance, and of getting them to
  want to show us their best, if we dont ask them
  for everything.

  will also help students assume responsibility for
  actually learning what needs to be learned

  think about the curriculum in terms of what kinds
  of knowledge we want students to have, what
  skills we expect them to develop and apply, and
  what attitudes toward learning, work, and
  citizenship we want them to acquire and practice,
  a new basis for parent-teacher-student
