• Create a challenging learning environment
• Guarantee proficiency in core curriculum
• Provides time to differentiate for enrichment and
  challenge

Process for Curriculum Compacting

• Student behavior demonstrates a need for higher
  level differentiation
• Pre-assessment to show mastery on a given unit
• Collaboration between classroom teacher and
  Project Discover II teacher

Parental Communication

• A letter is sent home to the parents of all
  students that are participating in compacting.
• An explanation of the enrichment or challenge
  opportunity is provided.

Benefits of Compacting to Whole Group Instruction

• When student has completed their enrichment
  activity, they return to their classroom and
  shares their expanded knowledge with their
  classmates.
• Prepared skits, PowerPoint presentations,
  storyboards, student made videos, games, puzzles,
  etc. are means for the compacted student to
  provide enrichment to the whole group.

- 300 students per year have participated in
curriculum compacting at the Middle School
level.- Compacting promotes a positive influence
on the total student body.
