Science

• Science is the effort to understand, or to
  understand better, how the physical world works,
  with observable evidence as the basis of that
  understanding.
• It is done through observation of phenomena,
  and/or through experimentation that tries to
  simulate events under controlled conditions.

Religion

• A religion is a set of beliefs and practices,
  often centered upon specific supernatural and
  moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human
  nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, and
  religious law.
• Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural
  traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as
  well as personal faith and mystic experience.

• Tyson is non-religious (not anti-religious) and
  has argued that the intelligent design movement,
  of the kind that credits complex,
  yet-to-be-understood phenomena in nature to a
  higher intelligence, thwarts the advance of
  scientific knowledge. Tyson's views on religion
  and spirituality might best be understood from
  his two essays "The Perimeter of Ignorance" and
  "Holy Wars" both appearing in Natural History
  Magazine.
