Title: Fieldbus Foundation A Decade of Leadership

1
Fieldbus FoundationA Decade of Leadership
2
Born in 1994
  • On 23 Sep 94 Fieldbus Foundation was formed
  • World FIP North America and the ISP Foundation
members voted with an overwhelming majority to
    proceed
  • Clear mandate to deliver the benefits of Fieldbus
    technology
  • Would require global cooperation across a wide
spectrum of suppliers and end users

Freedom to Choose Power to Integrate
  • We need open specifications that provide us with
    the "Freedom to Choose" interoperable
best-in-class products that meet our application
needs and the "Power to Integrate the
information from those products into our
    enterprise model.

Fieldbus Acceptance Has Been Outstanding
  • FOUNDATION fieldbus installations
  • include leaders in key industries
  • 9 of the top 10 oil and gas companies
  • 24 of the top 25 pharmaceutical companies
  • 23 of the top 25 chemical companies
  • 15 of the top 20 pulp and paper companies
  • 10 of the top 20 food and beverage companies

  • - Includes registered HSE Linking Devices, FB
    Devices, and HSE Redundancy

13
Business requirements
  • Meeting business challenges in the 21st century
requires a new way of thinking.
  • The industry as a whole is turning the corner on
increased production demands with informed asset
    management and predictable system performance

14
Unneeded Trips To The Field - Avoided Through
Remote Diagnostics
15
International Standards
Yes!
  • IEC 61804
  • Function Blocks (FB) for Process Control
  • - Part 1 Overview of system aspects
  • - Part 2 Specification of FB concept and
    Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL)
  • Covers DDL used in the FOUNDATION fieldbus,
    HART and Profibus communication protocols
  • Used to support about 1000 different devices

16
What is IEC 61804-2
It is a Super Set Specification of Device
Description Languages (DDL)

The three languages are 95 the same with only
small differences
17
Impact of IEC 61804
  • Standardization of existing technology
  • No Changes to existing DDs
  • First Time the HART Communication Foundation, the
    Fieldbus Foundation and Profibus
    Nutzerorganisation e.V have co-operated!
  • Paves the way for future co-operation!

DD Cooperation Project
  • Graphing System
  • Key Features
  • Visualize Complex Data
  • Support for Charts and Graphs
  • Multiple plots
  • Interactive zooming
  • Direct editing of graphs
  • Emphasis, Key Points, Notes
  • Example Applications
  • Radar Level Configuration
  • Valve Signatures
  • Analyzers

21
DD Cooperation Project
RADAR LEVEL GAUGE EXAMPLE
  • A graph is used to present the echo waveform to
enable configuration of thresholds and false
    echoes areas in the device.
  • Trigger device to build waveform data
  • Retrieve waveform data
  • Update the graph with the retrieved values

22
DD Cooperation Project
  • Valve Step Response
  • A graph is used to present the Step Response
    waveform of a Valve.
  • Trigger device to build
  • waveform data
  • Retrieve waveform
  • Update the graph with the retrieved values

23
DD Cooperation Project
  • Valve Signature
  • - with Best Fit Line
  • graph is used to present the Valve Signature
waveform as a measure of the force-to-open and
    the force-to-close
  • Trigger device to build
  • waveform data
  • Retrieve waveform
  • Update the graph with
  • the retrieved values
  • Best Fit line can be calculated
  • Retrieve, save and draw the data on the graph.

Infraserv Höchst To Host FF-SIS Validation
Testing
  • Testing will evaluate devices based on IEC safety
    standards
  • Effective March 19, 2004, Infraserv Höchst, an
    independent consultancy located in Frankfurt,
Germany, will host Fieldbus Foundation Safety
    Instrumented Systems (FF-SIS) lab specification
    validation testing during 2004.
  • The foundation, in concert with leading device
manufacturers and end users, is developing
specifications and guidelines complying with the
    International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
    61508 standard (functional safety of
    electrical/electronic/programmable electronic
    safety-related systems), and IEC 61511
    (functional safety safety instrumented systems
for the process industry sector). IEC 61511
addresses the application of safety instrumented
    systems.
  • The FF-SIS development team included ABB,
    DuPont, Emerson Process Management, ExxonMobil,
    HIMA, Honeywell, Invensys/Triconex, Metso
    Automation, Rockwell Automation, Rotork Control
Systems, Saudi Aramco, Shell Global Solutions,
    Smar, Softing, TÜV and Yokogawa.

25
Fieldbus Foundation Future
  • We are always open to new ideas and better
methods of sharing benefits of the technology.
