Prerequisites
  • Academically
  • None
  • Realistically
  • This course teaches computer applications. A
    keyboard and monitor is the primary means of
    communicating with the computer. Students lacking
    in keyboarding skills should plan to spend some
    time at the Learning Center where tutorials are
    available to help improve skills. There are also
    self-study courses available for ones own
    computer.

Class Meeting Times
  • This class meets for 50 minutes each Monday,
    Wednesday and Friday except for scheduled
    holidays.
  • Attendance records are kept via Web CT. Logging
    in from outside the classroom violates the
    Academic Honesty policy of CSU and will be dealt
    with accordingly.

Course Objectives
  • Gain a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2003
    Suite
  • Learn About Windows, Word, Excel, Access,
    PowerPoint, and Front Page
  • Development of Critical Thinking and Technical
    Skills through study of texts and exams.

Required Materials
  • The online material for this course is provided
    on the SAM 2003 Web site. You must have a Sam
    2003 Access Code. Do not discard the folder
    containing the CD. It contains the required code.
  • SAM 2003 Access Code You cannot complete this
    course without this code

Class Format
  • Lecture Lab
  • All assignments are posted on your Web CT
    calendar. All completed assignments will be
    uploaded to your Web CT drop box. I intend this
    to be a paperless class.
  • Tests for each application.
  • There will be exams and projects for each
    application.
  • Schedule MWF for 15 weeks, or 45 meetings.
  • Final Exam is a separately scheduled meeting. See
    syllabus for tentative schedule.

  • Communications
  • WebCT is the primary communications medium.
    Students are responsible for all postings
    therein.
  • SAM 2003 is used for online testing.
  • SAM access code is required for this.

Schedule
  • Tentative Detailed Schedule

  • Attendance
  • Checked via WebCT. Log-ins from outside the
    classroom will be penalized.
  • Five (5) unexcused absences will result in your
    being dropped from the class roll.

Computer Lab
  • The open computer lab (located in CCT 124 ) is
    available to CSU students at published hours.
  • Please consult the lab for their current hours.

Academic Honesty
  • Students must present their own work for a grade.
    Cheating and Plagiarism will result in a failing
    grade and the students academic misconduct will
    be reported to the Academic Grievance Committee.
    Reference is made to the Student Handbook for
    further information.

Positive ID for Final Exam
  • Each student must present an ID bearing his/her
    picture, issued by an appropriate authority,
    prior to taking the final examination.
  • The ID may be a CSU Student ID, drivers license,
    passport, military ID, or similar document.
