• Allowing another person to read your essay and
  help you to find ways to improve it.

Evaluating the Essay

• Is the information presented clearly?
• Evaluate the thesis
• Check for errors in organization, sentence
  structure, mechanics
• Make suggestions for improvement (in a positive
  way)

Thesis

• Is the thesis clearly stated at the end of the
  introduction?
• Does it state the points to be discussed?
• If no points are listed, does the essay fully
  explain the thesis?

Body Paragraphs

• Is there a body paragraph for each point made in
  the thesis?
• Does the body paragraph begin with a topic
  sentence?
• Do all the details support the main idea?
• Are any sentences irrelevant?
• Check for coherence.

Conclusion

• Does the conclusion summarize the main points of
  the essay in a new way?
• Does the conclusion restate the thesis in a new
  way?
• Are there new points or ideas introduced? (No-no!)
