Raison d'être Goals of the PR Committee(With
thanks to the Rotary Club of Kingston - Perry
Bamjis previous club)

• Promote a positive image for the Rotary Club of
  Oak Bay in the local Community
• Elevate our profile to a level that will enhance
  our fundraising activities
• Through external outreach, attract new Rotarians
  to our Club
• Work closely with area clubs to promote Rotary
  through joint activities/advertising
• Work closely with Club committees by providing
  expertise in advertising to promote their
  activities

Preferred Practices of the PR Committee(Again,
thanks to the Kingston Club)

• Ensure that our newsworthy activities are
  provided to all media outlets, particularly the
  Oak Bay News
• Provide news releases, and encourage local media
  to publish in a timely manner
• Arrange for local media to attend Rotary
  functions that promote community involvement,
  fundraising activities, and high profile speakers

• Establish key contacts with local media to foster
  co-operation in securing news articles /
  announcements
• Assign specific tasks to committee members in
  order that they are actively involved
• Hold committee meetings to keep all committee
  members informed and involved
• Work with Program Chair to ensure that speakers
  will be given the proper level of media coverage

Achievements

• Working with other Rotary Clubs to form a
  Victoria-area PR Committee
• Monthly publication in Black Press papers
• Rotary in Action gives each club a chance to
  explain their various projects and advertise
  coming events
• Our recent Garage Sale was a large success due in
  part to wide-area (yet free), newspaper coverage
• Golf Tournament advertising materials / tickets
  prepared

We shall encourage the media to

• Recognize outstanding Rotary volunteers
• Interview Rotary Exchange Program participants
  such as Youth Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholars,
  or Group Study Exchange participants
• Cover Human-interest stories of people benefiting
  from Rotary service
• Report on PolioPlus activities-particularly in
  polio-endemic areas

• Photographic record kept of clubs activities
• Printable file provided for archival purposes
