What are adverbs? Adverbs are the words that tell
you how an action is done. e.g. happily, softly,
quietly. The children are playing happily. The
soldier marched smartly.

- Prepositions usually occur
- before a noun
- before a noun phrase (e.g. at the canteen).
They show the position, time, place or direction.
