the house, behold, many tax collectors and
sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and
his disciples.

they said to his disciples, Why does your
teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?

ESVMatthew 91213 But when he heard it, he said,
Those who are well have no need of a physician,
but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this
means, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice. For I
came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

A. We all share a common depravity.
ESVMatthew 912 He said, It is not those who are
healthy who need a physician, but those who are
sick.
1. He is talking about SPIRITUAL HEALTHnot
physical health.
2. Jesus is saying there is ONE CLASS of
peopleall humanity who are sickonly that some
know it and some dont!

B. In order to reach the lost we must hang around
the lost.
ESVMatthew 1119 The Son of Man came eating and
drinking, and they say, Look at him! A glutton
and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and
sinners! Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.
ESVMatthew 913 Go and learn what this means, I
desire mercy, and not sacrifice. For I came not
to call the righteous, but sinners.
