    was to reach enlightenment or peace by ending
    suffering.
  • The Buddha decided that life is ruled by the Four
    Noble Truths.

  • Life is filled with suffering.
  • Suffering is caused by people wanting more
    pleasure, more power, or a longer life.
  • Suffering can end if people stop wanting things.
  • People must follow eight basic laws if they are
    to stop wanting things.

  • The eight basic laws are called the Eightfold
    path.
  • The Eightfold Path is a set of instruction on the
    proper way to live.
  • By following the Eightfold Path, the Buddha
    taught, people could end the suffering in their
