- NCAA Bylaw 14.5.2 provides the full list of
transfer triggers, but the two most common - Full-time enrollment and attends classes.
- Reported for regular squad practice.

- Regular student enrolled full time at night
school. - Attendance at a branch school
- With no athletics and previously enrolled
elsewhere and - With athletics and transfer to school other than

- Institution shall not provide a prospective
student-athlete with a National Letter of Intent
or written offer of aid until the prospective
student-athlete presents the institution with a

- Conduct a preliminary eligibility certification
prior to the student-athlete triggering transfer
status. - Educate coaching staff members regularly on the
transfer rules. - Establish written policies and procedures for
conducting transfer eligibility certifications

56One-Time Transfer Tidbit
- A student-athlete who, prior to the transfer to
the certifying institution, attended two
four-year institutions ("4-2-4-4" transfer), does
not meet this condition regardless of whether the
student was enrolled in a junior college between
attendance at the two previous four-year

57Another One-time Transfer Tidbit
- If your institution sponsors NCAA Division I
mens ice hockey, you cannot use this exception
to certify a mens ice hockey player, even if all
other elements are met. - Division I Bylaw 14.5.5.2.10
58Discontinued/Nonsponsored Sport Exception
- Previous institution dropped the sport.
- Applicable at the time of public announcement.
- OR
- Previous institution never sponsored the sport.
- While student-athlete in attendance and
- Student-athlete has never attended an institution

59Two-Year Nonparticipation Exception
- Prior to engaging in any countable athletically
related activities, a two-year period must have
elapsed where the student-athlete - Has not competed in the sport at another
institution - Has not engaged in any countable athletically
related activity beyond a 14 consecutive calendar
day period and - Has not participated in any noncollegiate amateur
competition in the sport while a full-time

compete in the championship segment at the
certifying institution if he or she has competed

- Avoid relying solely on the information contained
within the transfer release information form from
the previous institution. - Conduct a preliminary eligibility certification
prior to the student-athlete triggering transfer
status. - Educate coaching staff members regularly on the
transfer rules.

conducting transfer eligibility certifications
and communicate these policies to appropriate
coaches and staff. - Make sure there is an amateurism certification
done by the Eligibility Center and follow up on
the amateurism status after such certification
and prior to enrollment.
