20
Important questions
  • Financing customers to the RCN
  • Are they willing to continue and even increase
the budget allocations per year from 2005 and
    onwards?
  • Receiving customers (from the RCN)
  • Are you taking good care of the money received
    from NANOMAT?
  • How good are your results?

21
Stakeholders
  • The Society
  • The regular citizen
  • The press (TV, radio, newspapers,
  • targeted magazines)
  • Organisations
  • Pressure groups
  • The Market
  • The research institutions
  • The industry
  • Trade organisations

NANOMAT- nanotechnologi and new materials
  • The Research Council
  • Division for Strategic priorities
  • Division for Science
  • Division for Innovation
  • Division for Administration
  • The Executive Board
  • The Divison Board
  • The Program Board
  • Owners
  • The Ministries
  • The Parliament
  • The political parties
  • The voters/tax payers

22
More important questions
  • How shall the RCN make priorities nationally?
  • The Foresight process will make a very good basis
    for our decision making
  • How shall the different RD organizations make
    their priorities?
  • What will different RD institutions exclude?
  • We do not have enough money to get both milk and
    honey
  • A national co-ordination is important!
  • How are the different RD institutions going to
position themselves with respect to the ongoing
    restructuring within the EU?
  • 7th framework program
  • European Science Foundation
  • Who will be your allies internationally?

23
And some more..
  • How is the RD within materials technology and
nanotechnology structured within the next 5 10
    - 15 years in Norway?
  • How to find the best allies in Norway and work
    together with them?
  • Established industry such as Elkem, Hydro,
    Statoil, Borealis, Borregaard, Scanwafer,..
  • Newly established companies such as n-TEC,
    Keranor, Photonyx, Norspace,
  • Trade organisations such as PIL, TBL, Abelia,
  • And not to forget
  • How to avoid the obstacles
  • For the politicians and the decision makers it
    is better to learn
  • Our appreciation for the financial support given
    so far
  • What we have acheived
  • How we will use more funding to support the
    targets in our program
  • And not have complaints about too little funding

24
Conclusions
  • We need to put more energy into the strategy
work, paving the way for budget increases in
    NANOMAT
  • You as the scientists need to deliver (more)
results of a high international standard
  • We need to get allies outside the FUNMAT, COMPLEX
and other scientist driven research groups
    (industry, trade organisations,)
  • Convince a politician
  • Investing in nanotechnology and new materials
will give value increases for Norway in the long
    run
