24Plenum System
25Placement of Plenum
SIZES - 20wx24lx36h / 25wx30lx48h
- Subtract 12 from the height of either plenum as
that portion will be above finished floor. (8
above finished floor and 4 in SLAB) - Dig the hole, depending on which size plenum
width, length, and height -12 deep - Set initial piece of pipe in the pre-dug trench
and butt up to plenum - Mark the top and bottom of the pipe on the
workable area of the plenum - Remove plenum from 20x24x24 or 25x30x36
hole and use the plenum adapter to complete the
outline of the pipe on the face of the plenum.
26Installation of Plenum, Steps 6-8
25wx30lx48h
20wx24lx36h
- Cut out marked outline
- Attach plenum adapter per installation guidelines
- Place plenum back in trench
27Components
- Pipe trench depth
- Plenum and Pipe depth details
- Solving for pipe size and trench depth
28Pipe Depth
29Installing Plenum Adapter
- Once the plenum hole is dug along with the trench
for the system set your plenum in the hole
butting directly up to your initial run trench - Place a foam block in trench about an inch away
from the plenum - Place your plenum adaptor flange pushed snuggly
against the plenum and the throat resting on the
foam block - Set plenum w/ attached adaptor back in trench,
level, and youre ready for your first 8 piece
of pipe

46(ii) Building Codes Regulatory Compliance
- Future Code Compliance with 2009
- SMACNA IECC (International Energy Conservation
Code) - Ducts must be tested and must attain 2 leakage
or less for compliance to energy code. - Amendment passed at ICC code Hearings in
Minneapolis in September, 2008.
47(iii) MN State Board of Appeals
- Unanimous 5-0 decision by the State Board of
Appeals comprised of 2 Architects, 2 building
Inspectors and 1 engineer that AKDUCT meets the
intent of the MN Energy Code of R-5 insulation
required for underground air ducts, based upon
tested thermal performance equivalency.
48(iv) PVC Toxic Gas Generation
- NIOSH states vinyl chloride is a known
carcinogen. - OSHA has determined that Hydrogen Chloride is
IDLH _at_ 50 ppm. - ( IDLH Immediately Dangerous to Life
Health.) - PVC generates 1000 PPM of Hydrogen chloride under
standard testing for Toxic Gas Generation. - 20 times the legal limit
