• But for Christians a funeral is not just a time
  for sadness but a reminder that death is not the
  end
• The deceased will go to heaven to be with God for
  eternity

• In most Churches there is a short service either
  at a Church or Crematorium

• A Christian funeral begins with the words of
  Jesus I am the resurrection and the life

Bible Readings

• A passage from the bible is read, it is usually
  chosen to emphasise the hope of eternal life

Prayers

• Prayers are said asking for the comfort for the
  relatives and friends and giving thanks for the
  life of the person who has died.

Speech

• The vicar or a family member gives a speech about
  the person to remember his or her personality
  and achievements.

Hymns

• Sometimes a hymn is sung. It might be a hymn
  about resurrection, or one which reminds the
  congregation of the presence of God in times of
  trouble, or a hymn which was a favourite of the
  deceased

• The dead person might be buried in a coffin in
  the ground or might be cremated.

• A cremation is where the body is burned and the
  ashes can either be buried and represented by a
  tree or given to relatives in an urn

The Wake

• When the funeral is over those who have attended
  the service often go back to the house of the
  closest relatives for refreshments and a chance
  to give their sympathy
