SH 66 Lyons to Longmont Requested Action The
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is
requesting consideration by Congress of a 4.1
million appropriation for Highway construction
projects for SH 66 from the Town of Lyons to the
City of Longmont in the FY 2010 Transportation
Appropriations bill. The funding is requested
from the Transportation Community System
Preservation (TCSP) Program administered by the
Federal Highway Administration at the U.S.
Department of Transportation. Identified Need SH
66 from the Town of Lyons to the City of Longmont
carries from 9,000 to 22,000 vehicles a day. This
section of the SH 66 is deteriorating due to
heavy commuter use. This roadway is in need of
improvements in response to daily auto use.
Project Description Funds in this corridor can
by utilized for improvements on SH 66 from the
Town of Lyons to the City of Longmont. The
improvements will include surface treatment,
along with pavement markings, guardrail, seeding,
mulching and traffic control. Contact Herman

SH 96 Bridges in SE TPR (K-24-A, K-23-B,
K-23-C, L-22-F) Requested Action The Colorado
Department of Transportation (CDOT) is requesting
consideration by Congress of a 600,000
appropriation to complete preliminary and final
design in the FY 2010 Transportation
Appropriation bill. The funding is requested from
the Transportation, Community and System
Preservation (TCSP) Program or the Federal Bridge
Program administered by the Federal Highway
Administration at the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Identified Need These wooden
structures are prime examples of the multitude of
such structures in the State that are in dire
need of replacement. They are on Colorados list
of structurally deficient bridges. Many
structures were constructed in the early to mid
1930s. Typically when they cannot be utilized
due to a poor load rating traffic will have to
detour 10s to 100s of miles on either unpaved
county roads or distant state highways. Project
Description This funding request would provide
the necessary dollars to complete preliminary and
final design for these structures. Contact Herman

US 34 Upper Big Thompson Canyon Bridge
Replacement Requested Action The Colorado
Department of Transportation (CDOT) is requesting
consideration by Congress of a 2.5 million
appropriation for Highway construction projects
for the Upper Big Thompson Canyon Bridge
replacement on US 34 near the Town of Estes Park
in the FY 2010 Transportation Appropriations
bill. The funding is requested from the Public
Lands Highway Program or Federal Bridge Program
administered by the Federal Highway
Administration at the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Identified Need US 34 near the
Town of Estes Park carries 5,000 vehicles a day
and provides a recreational/ tourist link from
Interstate 25 to Rocky Mountain National Park.
Traffic volumes are heaviest in the summer and
includes a mix of personal and recreational
vehicles. This project will replace Structure
C-15-J with a sufficiency rating of 6.0 and
Structure C-15-I with a rating of 34. Both of
these structures continue to deteriorate due to
exposure to the elements and age. Project
Description Funds in this corridor can be
utilized for improvements on the Upper Big
Thompson Canyon Bridges. The improvements will
include bridge replacement pavement markings,
guardrail improvements, seeding, mulching and
traffic control. Contact Herman Stockinger,

US 34 Greeley Bypassfrom 71st Ave to 8th Ave
Project Description FY 10 Request 7 Million
This funding request would accommodate much
needed improvements along US 34 Greeley Bypass
from 71st Avenue to 8th Avenue. The improvements
will include overlaying with hot mix asphalt,
pavement markings, guardrail improvements,
seeding, mulching and traffic control.

US 34 Greeley Bypass from 71st Avenue to 8th
Avenue Requested Action The Colorado Department
of Transportation (CDOT) is requesting
consideration by Congress of a 7 million
appropriation for Highway construction projects
on US 34 Greeley Bypass from 71st Avenue to 8th
Avenue in the FY 2010 Transportation
Appropriations bill. The funding is requested
from the Transportation Community System
Preservation (TCSP) Program administered by the
Federal Highway Administration at the U.S.
Department of Transportation. Identified
Need The US 34 Bypass in Greeley carries 30,000
vehicles a day and provides an important link
between the eastern plains and the Northern Front
Range. This section of the US 34 Bypass is
rapidly deteriorating due to large numbers of
cargo and agricultural trucks accessing the
interstates. Maintenance forces are hard
pressed to keep up with potholes creating a
mobility and safety problem. Project
Description Funds in this corridor can by
utilized for improvements on the US 34 Bypass
from 71st Avenue to 8th Avenue. The improvements
will include overlaying with hot mix asphalt,

US 24 Old Timber Structure East of Limon
Project Description FY 10 Request 1.5
Million This funding request will accommodate
the reconstruction of a timber bridge on US 24
just east of Limon (at Mile Post 379.49). The
structure was originally constructed in 1934, and
has now been deemed structurally
deficient. CDOT has committed 200,000 for the
design of this project. The total cost of this
project is 1.9 million.
9
US Highway 24 Old Timber Structure East of
Limon Requested Action The Colorado Department
of Transportation (CDOT) is requesting
consideration by Congress of a 1.5 million
appropriation for a bridge reconstruction project
on US 24 east of Limon in Lincoln County, CO in
the FY 2010 Transportation Appropriations bill.
The funding is requested from the Federal Bridge
Program administered by the Federal Highway
Administration at the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Identified Need US 24 is a major
agricultural corridor connecting Colorado Springs
to Limon. It has critical importance to the
safety, mobility, and commerce of Colorado. It
will also serve as a multi-modal facility as the
western portion of the corridor transitions from
rural to urban as it joins the Colorado Spring
metropolitan area. The timber structure
(G-22-J) on US 24 east of Limon has been noted as
structurally deficient and is listed on CDOTs
Scour Critical list (i.e., the bridge support
piers and abutments could be compromised by heavy
rain runoff). In fact, this bridge now requires
hot mix asphalt patching on the deck on a monthly
basis, as a result of the constantly-shifting
girders and failing integrity of the structure.
Project Description This antiquated timber
structure bridge on US 24 offers a rough ride and
shifts noticeably when traffic crosses it. The
costs and interruption to traffic to fix the
current known problems would be roughly
equivalent to just replacing the bridge and
eliminating future problems with the old timber
structure entirely. The new bridge will be a
concrete deck with girders constructed of either
rolled steel I-beams or concrete I-beams. CDOT
has committed 200,000 for the design of this
project. The total cost of this project is 1.9
million. Contact Herman Stockinger,

US 287 in Berthoud
Project Description FY 10 Request
330,000 This funding request would accommodate
much needed improvements along US 287 in the Town
of Berthoud. The improvements will include
surface overlay, pavement markings, seeding,
mulching and traffic control.
11

US 287 in Berthoud Requested Action The
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is
requesting consideration by Congress of a
330,000 appropriation for surface treatment
projects on US287 in the Town of Berthoud in the
FY 2010 Transportation Appropriations bill. The
funding is requested from the Transportation
Community System Preservation (TCSP) Program
administered by the Federal Highway
Administration at the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Identified Need US 287 carries
over 15,000 vehicles a day and is an important
transportation corridor connecting Northern
Colorado to the Boulder, Longmont, and Denver
area. This section of US 287 is in poor condition
due to high traffic volumes, including
over-the-road trucks. Maintenance forces are
hard pressed to keep up with potholes and surface
cracking creating a mobility and safety
problem. Project Description Funds in this
corridor can by utilized for improvements on US
287 in the Town of Berthoud. A new roadway
surface will stand up to higher traffic volumes.
