Taping and bandaging objectives

• Provide compression to minimize swelling
• Reduce chances of re-injury (prophylactic)
• Provide additional support to injured structure
• Hold dressings and ice bags in place
• Support soft tissue

Elastic bandages

• Made of cotton yarn reinforced with elastic
  rubber threads
• Application
• Hold roll in preferred hand
• The tail should extend from the bottom of the
  roll
• Apply uniformly and firmly
• Fingers and toes left open and checked for
  capillary refill

• Foot and ankle spica
• Lower leg spiral bandage
• Groin support
• Shoulder spica
• Elbow figure eight

• Adaptable, light, strong
• Cost based on
• Grade of backing
• Quality of adhesive
• Unwinding tension
• Elastic tape
• Good for conforming over small, irregular body
  parts or to assist muscle motion
• Kinesiotaping
• Most tape tears by hand

• Preparation
• Tape on skin best
• Clean skin
• Tape adherent
• Pad/lubricate bony prominences
• Can use 1 layer underwrap
• Direction of pull and tension VIP
• Removing tape manual, scissors, cutters, tape
  remover
