Why Do We Do This?

• Extension Programs must maintain grassroots
  relevance. Issues addressed should be pertinent
  to the County.
• The LAB is a group of leaders from the county,
  who have knowledge of relevant issues. This
  group is one source of issues for Extension.

The Role of the LAB Previous Issues

• Discuss issues included in the County Strategic
  Plan.
• Determine if each is still an issue needing
  attention.
• Determine if Extension should provide further
  educational programming for each.

• Identify any new or emerging issues that are
  impacting the county.
• Determine if Extension educational programs
  should be offered in response to the issue.

Considerations for New Issues

• Why is this issue a major problem?
• How severe is the problem?
• What are the costs associated with the problem?
• What will happen to the community if the issue is
  not addressed?

• Have we thought about ALL potential issues?
• Do the issues represent the county as a whole?
  All areas, all populations, etc?
• Can Extension effectively address the issue, and
  if not who might?

• Issues taken to Program Area Committees for
  program planning.
• Programs developed to address those issues
  applicable to Extension.
• Results of programs reported back to LAB for
  further consideration in the future.
