condenses the file space requirements for your
files makes them safer and less susceptible to
damage.
35New File Format for 2007
The New File Format provides many new and
expanded features. The Smart Art Graphics
library has expanded features and additional
options such as math equations, themes and
content controls are also available. .
36Saving in New File Format
How do I know in which file format I am saving my
documents? When you select Save As to save a
document, check the Save As Type located below
the File Name. If it says simply Word Document
and you are using Word 2007, then you are saving
it in the New File Format.
37Saving in Previous Versions
When Saving in Word 2007, you have the option to
Save based on compatibility to previous versions
of Word, such as Word 97-2003. It is
recommended to Save your files in this format if
you will be sharing your documents with
individuals using a previous version of Word.
38Opening Older Documents in 2007
Word 2007 can open documents in older version,
1.0 thru 2003. Word 2007 will open older
documents in Compatibility Mode. This means that
it will retain the original formatting for the
prior version of Word. You will notice
Compatibility Mode next to name of file.
39Compatibility Mode
What does this mean to you? It is a good idea to
stay in Compatibility Mode if you will be
sharing your files with other people. Word 2007
will not make new features available if they
were not available in the previous version.
This ensures that any changes you make to a
document will be viewed by the individual with
whom you will besharing The document. If you
save your files in the 2007 format you may have
difficulty opening your files on computers using
a previous version of Microsoft Office.
