Introduction
  • Michael Jacksons death had kept him from his
    final hour of glory.
  • But Christs death was His finest hour of glory!

I. The Knowledge Christ Had of That Hour
  • This passage marks the transition from His public
    ministry, to His hour of suffering and death
    (v.23, cf. 24 76,30 820 v.31 v.28 cf. Luke
    322 vv.35,36).

I. The Knowledge Christ Had of That Hour
  • Christ had full knowledge of His entire life. He
    knew
  • Why He had come into this world (v.27b).
  • How He was going to die (v.33).
  • When and where this would happen (cf. Matthew
    1621 262).
  • What suffering He was to endure (v.27a cf.
    Matthew 2638,39).

I. The Knowledge Christ Had of That Hour
  • Application Since you have an all-knowing and
    all-powerful Saviour who fully understands your
    feelings, fears, and weaknesses, you should come
    to Him for all the help you need in life.

  • Instead of praying for deliverance from that
    hour, He prayed, Father, glorify Thy name.
    (v.28a cf. Luke 2242)

    (cf. Matthew 69,10).
  • This prayer was answered immediately by the
    Father (v.28b)His name would be glorified
    through Christs hour of trial.

  • The judgment of this world in v.31 refers to the
    universal conflict between good and evil which
    would come to a head at the Cross.
  • It began when Satan rebelled against God in the
    beginning.

  • It resulted in Satan usurping dominion from man,
    to become the prince of this world (v.31 cf.
    1430 1611).
  • God promised that Satans rule would end one day
    through Christs victory over him (Genesis 315).

    Gentiles would not only be hopelessly lost in
    sin, but also helplessly bound under Satans

  • Those who are not in Christ will have their part
    in darkness (v.35, cf. Matthew 2213).
  • Many did not heed His warning to believe in Him
    (vv.35-37).
  • They could not understand why He has to suffer
    and die (v.34).

  • Christ warned them that their time was running
    out.
  • As long as they persisted in unbelief, the truth
    would remain a mystery to them.

  • Do not allow your doubts to stop you from coming
    to Christ.
  • Humbly accept what you do not fully understand.
  • Have faith that the Lord will make them plain to
    you one day
  • Surrender your will and your heart to Him.
