Letcher Co. ATC Principal Barbara Ison Becomes
Whitesburg Rotary Club Treasurer for 2005-06
Letcher Co. ATC Principal Barbara Ison
understands the importance of working with
business and industry personnel in the community
and joined the Whitesburg Rotary Club one year
ago to become involved with various local
projects. This year, Barbara is serving as
the clubs 2005-06 treasurer and has had an
opportunity to meet with numerous individuals for
both Rotarian work as well as providing an
insight about the value of career and technical
education and the benefits of a new school.
"The plans for the new area technology center
have been presented before this group
Ison and Whitesburg Rotary Club President Carl
Banks, a retired English teacher.
by Superintendent Anna Craft during an update of
educational initiatives for Letcher Co., says
Ison. The blending of academic and technical
education will become a reality when the
technology center is constructed on the same
campus as Letcher Co. Central High School. I was
indeed pleased to have our school highlighted
during her presentation. "I think its
important to be a part of the Rotary club to have
a better handle of what is going on in the
community. Every week, there is a different
program shared to bring individuals up to date on
local, state and federal initiatives," says Ison.
"We look forward to having a program prepared
for this spring to promote the Letcher Co. ATC,
its programs and the teachers who have such an
impact on our students. We know that many of our
members already have an idea of who we are and
what we do, but to have an opportunity to stand
in front of our community leaders will
undoubtedly help with the image of our school.
During a recent visit, members of the OCTE
central office were treated to a Rotary Club
meeting. Lois Baker, CEO of Mountain
Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC), gave the
program for the day and outlined how the company
was developed and how it serves the community.
Ison relayed that the ATC had a long history
of working with MCHC because of the many health
sciences students now working as nurses within
that system. Said Ison, Mrs. Baker is a
supporter of Letcher Co. ATC and the programs we
teach."
