- The CORE Initiative is dedicated to supporting
an inspired, effective and inclusive response to
the causes and consequences of HIV/AIDS by
strengthening the capacity of community and
faith-based groups worldwide.

- Five-year global program funded by the United
States Agency for International Development
(USAID) under the Leader with Associate (LWA)
Mechanism. - CARE International is the lead organization
- Partners World Council of Churches (WCC),
International Center for Research on Women
(ICRW), International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and the
Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of
Public Health, Center for Communication Programs
(CCP)

- Presence in over 90 countries and partners with
community-based and faith-based organizations
including religious affiliates representing the
Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, and
traditional faiths - Decentralized Structures 6 Regional Management
Offices based in regions (CORE Initiative staff
in East/Central Africa, Southern Africa, Asia) - Multi-sectoral approaches

7Supporting Sustainable Southern Reponses
- Intermediary organizations, such as networks or
technical support organizations (TSOs) are
supported to serve as resource centers, grant
makers and capacity builders - Promotes southern leadership and better enables
effective, efficient expansion of the program

- Country-level Small Grant Programs provide grants
of up to 5000 for community and faith-based
organizations - Large Grants Program provides funds for
replication projects implemented by national,
regional, or international organizations
