3OR WIDESPREAD EVENTS

Industry has existed for decades. Industry has
become more organized over the last three
decades. Training and standards have become more
generally accepted and recognized. Federal and
state regulations for non-environmental work
still lacking.
10Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
State and Federal Regulations for Asbestos And
Lead Related Work. Texas and Louisiana have
adopted state regulations for mold related work,
and many other states are considering adopting
similar legislation. Many of the other services
that are provided by the RD Contractor do not
require specialized licensing or certification
other than what is normally required by local
and state statutes.
11When disaster strikesWhat is the role of the
RD Contractor?
- Understand the steps required to mitigate the
loss - Working with the property owner, develop priority
list of action items - Once loss is mitigated, develop recover plan to
achieve full recovery
12Loss Mitigation
- Loss mitigation is minimizing the damage caused
by the original damage. - Loss mitigation steps include temporary shoring
of the structure securing the roof, windows, and
doors water extraction and specific site
clearance. - Responsibility of property owner in insurance
policies.
13Logistics and Staging
14Initial Steps
- Involve analyzing sources of power, water, and
staging. - Requires high level of integration with facility
management of the affected property. - More pre-planning done by property owner/manager
the more smoothly recover process begins.
15Emergency Pre-planning

a recovery effort (facility, risk management,
operations, corporate, purchasing, etc.) - Establishes points of contacts for vendors
- Selects and establishes relationships with RD

pre-loss condition. - Building materials damaged beyond repair or
restoration OR preventing repair or restoration
require removal and replacement. - Less demolition, quicker recovery.
21Remediation and Bio-contamination Services
- Involves the removal of contaminants that are
potentially harmful to humans. - State and Federal Regulations dictate proper
remediation for most but not all environmental
and bio-contamination services.
