What is selling yourself?
  • Selling yourself is basically described as making
    someone want to hire you.
  • The way you prepare has everything to do with the
    way you are perceived on an interview.

Put yourself in their shoes
  • On an interview it is important to focus on the
    interviewers wants and needs and youll become
    an irresistible applicant.
  • Try to determine a mutual bond between the two of
    you which will make you stand out in the crowd,
    such as you may have the same alma mater.But be
    careful not too push this too far and seem
    pathetic.

Research
  • You want to know the companys position and who
    its customers are.
  • Find out as much as possible about the company
    you are applying at.
  • The more you know, the more informed questions
    you will be able to ask

  • Research the position you are applying for. Be
    clear on what you want and the skills you have to
    get it.
  • Be very clear on your personal strengths and have
    precise examples of them.

Preparation
  • Get plenty of sleep the night before so you are
    well rested.
  • Leave early to avoid being late.
  • Take additional copies of your resume along just
    in case you are interviewed by more than one
    person.

First Impression
  • Most important is to always be on time, make eye
    contact, and give a firm handshake.
  • Dress in a very professional attire, one step
    above what you think is expected.
  • It is very difficult to overcome a negative first
    impression.
  • Look energetic, display good posture, and dont
    forget to smile.

Your weaknesses
  • Turn any of your weaknesses into a strength
  • Such as if you have been out of work for any
    amount of time explain what volunteer what you
    have been doing.

Asking Questions
  • Any questions you ask show a genuine interest in
    the position.
  • This also gives you a chance to give examples as
    to why you are the right person for this position
  • You are also trying to find out if you are truly
    interested in working for the company.

Answering Questions
  • Avoid yes or no answers.
  • Give examples of your past experience that will
    indicate your future successes.
  • Be sure to stay positive!

Closing
  • Always thank the interviewer and shake their
    hand.
  • Remember to let them know that you look forward
    to hearing from them in the future.

Follow-Up
  • It never hurts to send a handwritten thank you
    note again thinking the person for his or her
    time. Mention exact things discussed in the
    interview. And once again express your interest
    in the position.
