2Procedures For Beginning Class
- Attendance will be taken at the start of each
period. The seating chart will be used except on
exam days when roll will be taken verbally. - Be on time for class. If you are not in your
assigned seat when the bell rings, your will be
marked tardy. School policy on tardiness will
apply. - Absences will be accepted with a doctors note
and you will receive full credit for late
assignments. - Unexcused absences will result in a 10 point
grade reduction on any assignment due on that
date. - Every day will start with the Challenge problems.
These will be used for academic warm-up and will
be collected for participation points. The
problems are for your review and mastery.
3Taking Up and Distributing Materials
- When you have finished the Challenge problems,
remain seated and quiet. - Group homework review will begin after the
warm-up, followed by a question and answer
session. - Any material needing to be turned in should be
handled by the designated group member and put
into the groups file on the file cabinet. - All class materials will either be distributed by
me or by the designated group member.

5Procedures Related to Instructional Activities
- Student movement in the classroom is permitted
during specified group activities. - Student movement is always conducted in a
courteous and responsible way. - All students will be seated, quiet and attentive
when I or another teacher is presenting
information/material. - All students will be seated, quiet and attentive
when a fellow student is presenting
information/material - Class time is valuable and I expect you to handle
your personal needs before or after class.

- Signal for student attention Whenever I say,
Attention, you are to stop what you are doing
and direct your focus on me. - Signal for teacher attention - Raise your hand
and wait to be called upon or wait until I come
to your table. - Student talking Good manners is non-negotiable
in this class. When another student or I are
addressing the class, remain quiet. In your
groups, maintain civility. In addressing each
other or me, be respectful.

9Classroom Layout Rationale
- Teaching philosophy is one of facilitation and
assistance of individual construction of
mathematical understanding. - Students are grouped at the tables for
teacher-led instruction and small group
interaction. - Adequate area around each group is designed for
ease of teacher to walk around each table. - Teachers desk is in the back of the room for
easy observation of each group/table. - Computer area is isolated to allow for individual
focus on math tutorials and math software.
10Procedures Regarding Room AreasFile and Supply
Cabinets andBookshelves
- Pick up after yourself and keep each area neat
and clean. - Be careful with hole punches, heavy duty stapler
and other equipment. - Only the designated person from each group is
allowed to file group material or to retrieve
material from the file cabinets and bookcases. - One person from each group is responsible to get
calculators, paper, etc. from supply.
11Procedures Regarding Room AreasComputer Area
- Absolutely no food or beverage is allowed in this
area. - No games other than approved math games are
allowed. - One student is allowed 30 minutes per visit
- Computers are for school/subject use only, no
internet surfing or personal e-mails will be
tolerated. - If you require help, raise your hand or quietly
ask a fellow student at the nearest computer.

World
- The desk, table, computer and file cabinet at the
back of the room are part of Mrs. Ramseys
World. - No student shall ever touch this World without
specific directions and permission to do so. - No student should ever be at my desk or in my
chair for any reason.
13Procedures for Ending Class
- Putting Away Supplies - all classroom supplies
and books are to be returned to their original
location by designated group member. - Organizing Materials Students can begin to
gather their book bags and materials only after
completion of class is signaled.
14Procedures for Ending Class
- Dismissing Class
- Listen for any dismissal announcements or final
instructions - I dismiss the class not the bell
- Make sure you leave your table area clean and
have removed your trash. - Check that you have all of your belongings.
15Fire Drill
- Immediately, upon hearing the fire alarm, all
students exit the room in a quiet and orderly
manner. - Proceed to the outside doors and go directly to
your designated area. - I will secure the classroom and follow you
outside to the designated area. - Attendance will be taken outside and again as we
return to the classroom. - Behave appropriately, this is a non-negotiable
behavior.
16Other Procedures
- Lockers Breaks exist between classes to allow
you locker visitation to retrieve the necessary
books and materials to come to class prepared. - There is no reason that I will allow a return to
your locker. - Think about what you will need for success and
then plan for the success. - Bathroom and water breaks Take care of your
personal needs during the breaks between classes. - Do not interrupt a learning session to request
permission to use the restroom. Find a more
appropriate time. - You may go to the restroom during class only if
it is an emergency.
17Substitute Folder/Procedures
- A substitute folder in on the file cabinet by my
desk. - Substitute instructions and materials are
enclosed. - A list of classroom procedures are in the folder
along with a seating chart with the names of
students. - Mr. Dunn is next door and available to assist
you. Please dont hesitate to ask him. - Please leave me a detailed note on any problems
or positives you experienced with my classes.
