educational public garden, designed and built
through experiential education projects by Ferrum
college students, staff, faculty and volunteers
from the local community. the gardens will
demonstrate the kind of dynamic spaces that
result when science and design are united, and
will serve to educate and inspire our community
in environmental stewardship.

Purpose The purpose of this project is to
increase public awareness of the benefits of
urban forests and the protection and enhancement
of community forest ecosystems. The project will
increase public understanding of these issues
through design and implementation of
demonstration projects in the Ferrum Community
Arboretum, to include Riparian Restoration
Rain Garden Buffer Garden Tree Planting

heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwest
Virginia on the campus of Ferrum College. It is
a short 10 minute drive from historic Rocky Mount.
