Title: HAMDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS 20062007

1

Attention Parents! OUR STUDENTS NEED YOUR
HELP!
2
The Mayors recommended budget
  • Reduces the Board of Educations 2009-2010
    adopted budget by 4,069,051
  • Is approximately 1,300,000 less than the Board
of Educations entire 2008-2009 operating budget.
This includes approximately 800,000 in stimulus
    funds.

3
  • This stimulus money can only be used in Title I
Schools (5 elementary) for specific purposes,
such as, summer school, tutoring and
instructional supplies. IT CAN NOT BE USED
  • TO SAVE JOBS AND NOT TO DECREASE CLASS SIZES.
  • Therefore, the mayors budget without stimulus is
  • actually 2.1 million lower than the Board of
  • Educations entire 2008-09 operating budget.

4
If these reductions occur, the effects to
Hamden Public Schools will be DRASTIC !
5
It may result in
  • Teacher layoffs (at least 27 teachers)
  • resulting in larger class sizes.
  • This represents approximately
  • 5 of the teaching staff.

  • by bringing at least 20 people
  • from each school.

16
  • Call and/or send letters to members of the
Legislative Council urging them to restore the

17
  • All of us must continue to contact

  • Changes to the present legislation
