• Removal of pharmaceuticals from the wastewater
• Goal Treated municipal wastewater shall not
  contain harmful proportions of chemical
  substances.

  long term negative effects on the environment.
• More efficient biogas production
• Goal Increased biogas production by utilizing
  organic substances in incoming water.
• Expected benefit Substantially increased biogas
  production at municipal treatment plants.
• Anammox technology nitrogen reduction
• Goal Increase knowledge of nitrogen reduction
  systems of supernatent from dewatered sludge at
  municipal treatment plants.
• Expected benefit Research and development
  efforts can lead to a more cost-effective and
  environmentally friendly nitrogen reduction
  technology.
