3Renewable Energy Scenario in India At a
GlanceAs on 31 March 2007
- The cumulative grid-interactive power generating
capacity using renewable energy sources was about - Wind energy 6315 MW
- Small Hydropower 1905 MW
- Bio-power 1152 MW
4Contd..
- Renewable energy power generation systems
constitute about 7 of the total installed
power-generating capacity in the country
5Contd..
- About 5923 MW of capacity has been added since
the beginning of the tenth Five-year plan against
a target of 3074 MW
6Contd..
- About 1201 MW of installed capacity was added
during 2006/07 alone. - Of this maximum capacity addition came from the
installation of - Wind turbines 933MW
- Biopower 199 MW
- Small Hydropower 69 MW
7Contd..
- Gross wind power potential has been assessed at
45000 MW. - However, the technical potential is estimated at
about 13390 MW, assuming 20 grid generation,
which is expected to go up with the augmentation
of grid capacity in potential states.
8Contd..
- Wind turbine units valued at about 250 million
were exported to the international markets during
2006-07.
9Contd..
- The cumulative installed capacity for small
hydropower projects (upto 25MW), as on 31 March
2007, was 1905 MW.
10Contd..
- A total of 4400 potential sites have been
identified, with an aggregate capacity of 10500
MW, for setting up small hydropower projects
(upto 25 MW) in the country.
11Contd..
- The current potential of conversion of surplus
agro and forestry residues to energy is estimated
to be about 16000 MWe and the estimated potential
for bagasse-based cogeneration in sugar mills is
estimated to be about 5000 MWe.
12Contd..
- The cumulative installed capacity of
grid-interactive biomass power generation and
bagase cogeneration was 1212.4 MW. - Installed capacity of biomass gasifier for
distributed power generated was about 75.85 MW
13Contd..
- The installed solar thermal collector area as on
31 Jan 2007 was 1.66 million m2. - The reassessed gross potential for solar thermal
collectors is 140 million m2. - About 0.66 million m2 of solar thermal collectors
were installed during 2006/07.
14Contd..
- The potential for energy recovery from urban
waste is estimated at 2550 MWe and from
industrial waste, at about 1287 MWe.
15Contd..
- Under the MNRE demonstration programme, 54,659
solar street lighting systems, 301603
home-lighting systems, and 463058 solar lanterns
have been deployed in the country (as on 31 Jan
2007)
16Contd..
- Under the NBMMP (National Biogas and Manure
Management Programme) of the MNRE, about 3.89
million biogas plants have been installed in the
country.
17Contd..
- As on 31 Jan 2007, 2501 villages and 830 remote
hamlets have been electrified through the RVE
(Remote Electricification) Programme of MNRE.
18Contd..
- In line with the Central Governments plans for
accelerated economic development of the north
eastern region, about 262 remote villages /
hamlets under the RVE programme have been
electrified. - In addition, about 1246 family-type biogas plants
have been installed as on 31 Jan 2006.
19Contd..
- During the 11th Five-year Plan period (2007-12),
it is expected that atleast 10 of the installed
capacity in the country (with 4-5) share in
electricity mix) will come from renewable energy,
that is, of the 70000 MW capacity addition
planned during this period, about 14500 MW (20)
is proposed to be supplied by renewable energy
resources.
20Renewable energy targets for the 10th 11th Five
Year plans and achievements during the Tenth Plan
period
21Proposed Energy Policy of Karnataka
- Setting up dedicated SEZs
- Increasing generation capacity of renewable
energy by 3,392 MW by 2012 and 6050 MW by 2018 - Planned addition of 3392 MW by 2012 is expected
to bring investments of about Rs 22341 Crore
22Proposed Energy Policy of Karnataka Contd..
- Addition of 6050 MW by 2018 will fetch
investments of Rs 46250 crore - Setting up single window clearance mechanism
for quick approvals and sanctions. - Exemption from entry tax on generation equipment.
