The Problem

• "Children who grow up in Russian orphanages are
  ill equipped to participate in society once they
  are released at the age of 17. With little
  education and low social competency, orphans are
  under prepared for the job market, and many are
  lured into lives of crime and prostitution. . .
  Russian girl orphans have a high risk of becoming
  victims of trafficking. Nearly 70 of Russia's
  orphans are girls, and are vulnerable and
  unprotected due to the lack of family and social
  support systems."

Children graduate from the orphanage and are
left vulnerable 70 of girls enter the sex
trade 40 - become drug users 40 - commit
crimes 15 - commit suicide
Orphans are not even equipped for typical office
work because of their lack of experience on even
the most basic computer systems.

  in their search for a career.

Computer Literacy Program Goals

• To train/prepare orphanage graduates in computer
  skills
• To help orphans use their new computer skills in
  finding jobs that will support them now that they
  are on their own
• To provide life-skills training and hope to
  transitioning orphans
• To instill Christ-like disciplines and qualities
  in the orphans as they make this life transition

Opportunities within the Computer Literacy Program

• Classes are held for small groups of people to
  foster better learning and individualized
  teaching
• Classes are 4.5 hours long, 2 times per week

relationship in which the orphan feels safe,
loved and better prepared for life on their own

• Your Church can extend its reach globally by
  sponsoring the Computer Literacy Program for the
  entire region of Ivanovo with the Childrens
  HopeChest Russia
• Through committed monthly sponsorship, you can
  begin to turn statistics into productive, happy,
  hopeful Christ-followers
• As a ministry partner, you will be able to take
  trips to meet the orphans involved. They are
  especially interested in teams coming from the US
  to lead classes and work alongside them
• You can maintain regular communication with the
  Computer Literacy staff through blogs and online
  communities

Program Accountability

• Results of the meetings and sessions are reported
  to HopeChest staff in Russia
• Based on those reports plans may be changed to
  meet the appropriate needs of the individuals
  involved

• Online community will be established with blogs
  posts from the trainers and the orphans learning
  in the program. This will allow interaction
  between the sponsoring organization and the
  orphans in the program.

• Right now computer engineering and computers
  influence our life more and more. Computers
  surround us everywhere or almost everywhere but
  not everybody can use them. There are many ways
  to learn use a computer, for example to computer
  courses. Now there is quite a number of them from
  traditional PC user to highly tailored. But
  classes at the courses cost a lot and it makes
  them inaccessible for orphans. Many of them can't
  afford buying a computer and learn using it
  independently with the help of special
  literature. It should be also mentioned that
  boarding school graduates didn't study computer
  technology in the framework of school curriculum.
  Availability of a computer lab equipped with the
  latest computers and the program Computer
  literacy allows orphans become confident users
  of PC, systematize and extend the knowledge they
  got before.
