BACKGROUND

• PennDOT Uses Contractor LWP Data for Payment
• Process Assures Each LWP Is Operated Proficiently
  and Provides Accurate and Precise Results
• Manufacturer Models Not Approved

EQUIPMENT CALIBRATION VERIFICATION

• Yearly Verification for LWP
• 2 Component Verification
• Software Check
• Equipment Operation Performance
• Generally Done in Spring

SOFTWARE CHECK

• LWP Manufacturer Must Provide Software to Convert
  Raw Profiler Data to ERD Format (RoadRuf)

EQUIPMENT OPERATION PERFORMANCE

• Not a Training Program
• Equipment and Operator Must Be Ready to Perform
• PennDOT Test Track Established
• Test Track Is Annually Verified

TEST TRACK VERIFICATION

• 5 Passes with Walking Profiler (ARRB)
• STD Deviation ARRB lt /- 2
• 5 Passes with DOT LWP with STD DEV lt /- 2
• If LWP Mean is /- 2 of ARRB Mean ARRB Mean is
  Test Section Value

THE PROCEDURE

• Distance Sensor Calibration 5 Feet Per Mile
  Accuracy
• Check Sensors Accelerometers
• Perform 5 Passes of the Test Section
• Provide Printout and Disk of IRI Data

ACCEPTANCE

• Standard Deviation of 5 Passes Must Be Within /-
  3 of Mean IRI Value
• Mean IRI Value Must Be Within /- 5 of Reference
  (ARRB) IRI

• The Test Section Will Also Be Used for
  Demonstrating and Determining the Operators
  Understanding and Proficiency of the LWPs
  Hardware and Software

• Operator Must Be Certified for LWP Make Used and
  Company (Contractor)
