• The 11th century saw William the conqueror build
  a fort in Stafford and he did not stop there.

STAFFORD HISTORY

• There has been a permanent settlement in
  Stafford since around 900-700bc. Cannock Chase
  dates back to the Iron age.

• 9th Century played a central part in the build up
  of the pottery industry.
• 10th Century was the war against the Danes.
  Aethelflaed, daughter of King Alfred fortified
  the area and with the help of the marshes and dry
  hills won the battle. The marshes gave name to
  the town, Staith Ford.
• 11th Century William the Conqueror built a fort
  in Stafford

  got a cathedral .
• It is a growing town with new industries and new
  homes being built all the time.

  time for example Victoria park and in the flood
  defences
