  • The direct object in a sentence in the person or

1.2. The DIRECT Object Pronoun
  • If you do not want to repeat the word sweater
all the time, you can replace with the pronoun
it in English. In Spanish, we would need the
direct object pronoun lo to replace un suéter

I bought the sweater Yo compré el suéter
I bought it. Yo lo compré.
  • NOTE that in Spanish the direct object pronoun
  • stands BEFORE the conjugated verb! In a
    negative
  • sentence, the direct object pronoun stands
    between
  • no and the conjugated verb form Yo no lo
    compré.

  • In Spanish, there is no equivalent of the English
pronoun it. We need to use lo or la
depending on whether they take the place of a
    masculine or feminine noun

Yo compré un suéter. Yo lo compré.
Yo compré una camisa. Yo la compré.

1.5. The Pronoun them
  • The same is true for the English pronoun them
that we will need to translate as los or las
