Who are we?

• Brigid Foster-Watts Phil Watts
• Over 70 years of accumulated working in 12 LAs
• Now working independently as WattsNext4U
  concentrating on positive, practical and
  developmental training and support enabling
  individuals, groups and teams to turn their
  visions into action

Why a different approach?

• Planning can become a predictable and sometimes
  tired process
• Focussing on problems in the present may restrict
  your vision/views on what you really want to
  achieve
• Meeting the challenge of engaging everyone in the
  process with an equal voice
• Enables balance between creative visioning and
  agreeing specific next steps for action

What is PATH?

• PATH is a creative planning tool with 3 stages
• The process starts in the Future and works
  backwards to decisions about Next Steps that are
  specific, possible and positive
• It is an excellent vehicle for team partnership
  building
• It is a results oriented process
• It provides tangible take away plans within a one
  day process

• Uses external facilitators
• Empowers whole team (and partners) as active
  contributors
• Provides graphic recording of process
• Taps into right and left brain thinking through a
  visual verbal process
• Builds on individual ideas and collective

What are the Aims of PATH?

• To create a clear collective vision of where you
  want to be beyond a standard business planning
  model
• To identify your long term goals but with a
  positive focus for the next year
• To work from the Now to your defined Future
• To identify key people to enrol on the journey
• To recognize ways to build on existing strengths
• To commit to the first immediate steps starting
  within the next week..

How do people use it?

• In a PfS context
• PfS team, combine centres within a LA, involve
  clubs, steering groups, schools or run it with
  young people
• Other contexts
• Schools, children young people, LA and support
  teams, colleagues in Health Teams, communities

• Base for formal written planning
• Display graphic in centres, website etc
• Copies for team and key people in wider
  partnership
• Touchstone for measuring progress and reminding
  what the big picture is
