An actor or storyteller portrays a character
using

• Movement
• Nonverbal Expression
• Speaking Style
• Listening

MOVEMENT

• Consider such things as how the character stands,
  walks, and gestures
• Plus the size, speed, weight, and tension of the
  movement
• Does the character move with big, heavy, slow
  steps?
• Does the character move with light, quick, bouncy
  steps?

NONVERBAL EXPRESSION

• Using facial expression or body language to
  reflect what is happening in a play

SPEAKING STYLE

• How does the character use vocal expression to
  create a style?
• Are there any distinguishing features?
• Does he have a stuffed up nose, nasal, gravelly
  voice?

LISTENING

• Listening and working together are important
  performance skills
• Actors need to respond to each others words and
  movements
• Actors need to listen to the director
