What is Hodgkins Disease?
  • Hodgkins Disease is a type of cancer.
  • It is a cancer that attacks the lymph system.
  • Lymph nodes are found in the pelvis, neck,
    underarm and abdomen. All parts could be
    infected.
  • Cell division in Hodgkins goes out of control
    and develops into a lump or tumor

  • 7500 new cases occurred annually since 1990.
  • Hodgkins Disease can infect any one at any time
  • Children can be affected as well as adults.
  • It commonly affects people between the ages of
    15-35 and 55-75.
  • It is more common in males than in females.
  • A physician, Thomas Hodgkins first discovered it
    in 1832

CAUSES OF HODGKINS

  • The disease like other cancers is not infectious
    or contagious.
  • The disease is not inherited

SYMPTOMS OF HODGKINS
  • Night sweats or unexplained fever
  • Weight loss and tiredness
  • Cough or breathlessness
  • Persistent itch all over the body
  • These symptoms although characteristic of
    Hodgkins can be for different problems.
  • The disease can only be diagnosed with a biopsy.
