• They are wearing protective hoods to protect
  their bodies during a quake.

Homes in Japan

• In Japan, the homes are usually very small
  because there is not much land.
• The walls in the homes are made of a heavy
  material called rice paper. The walls can be
  moved to make more room.

Food

• The Japanese people eat a lot of fish and
  vegetables that are native to their land.
• Their meals are very simple and are eaten at
  short tables, so the children must kneel to eat.

School Children

• The children go to school every day just as we
  do. In some areas, the school years are much
  longer. They enjoy learning and take school very
  seriously.

A School Day in Japan

• In Japan, the children eat lunch in their
  classroom. At lunch time, two students go to the
  kitchen and pick up the lunches. They wear masks
  and nets to keep germs from getting on the food.

A Job for Everyone

• The school sets aside a special time each day for
  the school to be cleaned.
• Each student has a special job to do and knows
  exactly what needs to be done.
