Title: EE 322 Lab 6

1
EE 322 Lab 6
  • Serial Communications
  • Due 2/26/08
  • Include your Design in your Report

2
Lab 6 Assignment Objective
  • Demonstrate proficiency in SDK 51 communications
    with a PC both directions

3
Deliverable outcomes
  • Send a welcome message to the PC when the SDK 51
    starts up.
  • Echo each lower case character sent from the PC
back to the PC as an upper case letter
  • Any other letters sent to the SDK board will be
    echoed unchanged

4
Prelab
  • Design and flow chart (no code) a C program
    that meets the above objectives.

5
Steps
  • Code your program using the Franklin compiler
  • Include your flow charts in your report
  • Simulate your code to verify its functionality
  • Program an 89C51 chip and verify that your code
operates the SDK 51 board properly
  • You will need to use
  • Franklin ProView 32 for the C compiler and
    simulator
  • SuperPro 2000 to program the 89C51 chips
  • HyperTerminal on the PC
  • SDK 51 board
  • Include the SDK board number, the 89C51 chip
number, and power supply number, and the PC
workstation number you used for your lab.
  • That way I can track any problems that develop
  • Good practice to include in your report, the
devices and serial numbers you used for your
    experiment.

6
Chip Safety (safety of the chips not you)
  • Always wear the provided ground strap.
  • Always maintain contact between things you touch
    and the conductive pad.
  • Leave the chips plugged into the provided carrier
sockets, this will greatly reduce pin bending and
    breakage
  • Never move chips station to station without being
plugged into conductive foam or the SDK 51 board
  • When you move around always ground your body
before setting anything on the conductive pad.
