Mixed aged teaching
  • Teaching a mixture of ages, year groups and
abilities in one class. This is more common than
might be expected. All local authorities in
England have schools operating mixed-age classes,
and, according to the DCSF, the number of schools
    taking this approach is rising.

Issues raised by parents
  • Is this about balancing the bottom line or
    improving education?
  • How will maturity V ability be managed?
  • Will the children get the help/encouragement they
    need?
  • How are Year 6 children going to be prepared for
    Secondary School?
  • What will the teacher/pupil ratio be?
  • Why cant you have a teaching assistant to help
    the bigger classes?
