  • Communication Disorders
  • Is an impairment in the ability to receive, send,
    process, and comprehend concepts or verbal,
    nonverbal, and graphic symbol systems. A
    communication disorder may range from mild to
    profound. It may be developmental or acquired.
    Individual may demonstrate one or many sub-types
    of a communication disorder. Additionally, a
    communication disorder may be the primary or
    secondary disability.

Speech Disorders
  • Speech disorder.
  • Is an impairment of the articulation of speech
    sounds, fluency, and/or voice.
  • Articulation disorder- is atypical production of
    speech sounds characterized by substitutions,
    omissions, additions, or distortions speech.
  • Fluency disorder is an interruption in the flow
    of speaking characterized by atypical rate,
    rhythm, and repetitions.
  • Voice disorders- is characterized by abnormal
    production and/or absences of vocal quality,
    pitch, loudness, resonance, and/or duration,
    which is not age or gender appropriate.

    involve the form of language (phonology,

  • Morphology is the system that governs the

Hearing Disorder
  • Is the result of impaired auditory sensitivity of
    the physiological auditory system. A hearing
    impairment may limit the development,
    comprehension, production, and/or maintenance of
    speech and/or language. Individuals with hearing
    impairments are generally described as deaf or
    hard of hearing.
  • Deaf is defined as a hearing is order that limits
    the aural/oral communication to the extent that
    the individual is required to not able to us
    his/her hearing as the primary input for
    communication.
  • Hard of hearing is when an individual auditory
    system in impaired however he/she still uses it
    as their primary input for communication.
